Crane Pose
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen on my face when I started practicing crane. So if you just started with this pose, make sure to place a pillow in front of you. My crane is not the strongest or prettiest you’ll see online. I’m working on straightening my elbows more, rounding the back to engage the core, and maybe from here, push up to a handstand—maybe one day. But this is where I am now and I’m more than happy with it.
If you’re taking a yoga class, you might hear crow pose instead of crane. The main difference between the two poses is the arm position. Crane for straight arms and crow for bent elbows, either way, do the pose that feels right for you during the moment. For my own practice, I started with crow and worked my way to Crane. It’s hard for me to straighten the elbows.
